Dr. Whitney Wright MD

Dr. Whitney Wright was born and raised in Ann Arbor, MI. She had always been interested in medicine and the arts since a young age. She was raised by two psychiatric RNs, her supportive loving parents. She attended Alabama State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Pre-Med/Biology. She pursued her medical education abroad at Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica, W.I. and was accepted into dual Internal Medicine/Psychiatry program at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center. Eventually, she shifted her focus to General Psychiatry and completed her training at Kansas University Medical Center Program in 2015. After residency, she returned to Michigan to practice in corrections and moved to the Atlanta, GA area in 2016 where she has extended family, friends, and numerous ASU alumni. Since coming to Georgia she explored many practice settings in adult psychiatry as a locums psychiatrist to find the perfect fit including corrections, crisis center, outpatient, detox, dual/diagnosis, and inpatient settings. She joined GA Psychiatry in 2023 as her permanent position as it offers a blend of inpatient and outpatient settings and offers her opportunities for teaching and supervision. She has been the Interim Medical Director for Ridgeview Institute, Smyrna since January 2024.

Dr. Wright sees adults only and her professional interests include: teaching/supervision, severe and persistent mental illness, depression, dual diagnosis, ADHD/ADD, TBI, trauma, complex med-psych cases, and geriatrics.

In her free time, she enjoys traveling, watching movies, stand-up comedy, streaming TV, and spending time with her significant other and two Jack Russell terriers.
